CO-OP IN MARIO ON THE 3DS!
Its all about the coin collecting in New Super Mario Bros. 2,
but at Nintendo's 3DS Software Showcase event we got some more
information for why we as players would want to spend so much time and
effort tracking down those shiny golden discs.
First up is that when you begin a new campaign in the game, you'll be
assigned a cumulative coin counter with a goal of a million total coins
to collect. Traditionally Mario games' coin counters have only gone up
to 99 – when you hit that 100th coin, you earned a 1up and the counter
reset to zero to start all over again. This time around you'll still be
able to earn new lives for every 100 coins you grab, but the game will
also keep a running total of every coin you ever touch throughout all
the hours you play.
And, when you finally hit 1,000,000 collected, something special will
happen. (Nintendo's not giving away what that is, of course.)
Also
newly announced here at E3 is the fact that New Super Mario Bros. 2
will be an actual "Bros" experience, as it will allow you and a buddy to
play simultaneous two-player co-op as Mario and Luigi together. In the
first New Super Mario Bros. game, you could experience a similar dynamic
– but only in Battle Mode. Here the entire main campaign is available
to tackle as a duo. (Available via local wireless. No online, sadly.)
Other small details – Luigi's raccoon tail and ears retain the golden
coloring first seen in his version of the Tanooki Suit from Super Mario
3D Land, and if you're playing two-player co-op and scroll your buddy
off the screen, they'll end up floating around in a bubble just as in
New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Finally, Nintendo's representatives on stage went into great detail
about New Super Mario Bros. 2's Coin Rush mode. This is the part of the
game that might just get you to be just as coin crazy as Mario has
become, because it will be the 3DS system's newest on-going StreetPass
competition.
The way it works is that Coin Rush mode will give you a set of three
levels that you've previously cleared in the main campaign. It's your
goal to then speedrun through them as fast as you can, gathering as many
coins as you can along the way. The levels will be altered a bit from
how they appeared in the main campaign, as special items like Golden
Mushrooms worth 50 bonus coins will be placed throughout the
environment. You won't want to spend too much time searching for them,
though, as when you grab the stage-ending flagpole, every second
remaining on the game clock will be converted in bonus coins.
Oh, and you only have one life in this mode. So you have to play perfectly.
Assuming you're able to successful clear three levels in a row
without dying, your Coin Rush coin total will be saved as StreetPass
data. Then, when you pass by a friend, they'll see the total you were
able to achieve and have the option to attempt the same set of three
levels on their game, to challenge your record. Nintendo's reps said
that this can be straining on a friendship, because you'll want to
murder your buddies who manage to best your own coin totals by squeaking
out just a couple of extra coins themselves.
Its looking to be a great new Mario game for the masses who own a 3DS right now with lots of coin collection, GoldRush mode, & a great Co-Op mode experience from console to portable, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is looking to be a game that all Nintendo fans alike will truly love to have this August! And if your not a Mario lover all I have to say is WTF is wrong with you LoL.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS comes out on August 19th 2012 COMING SOON!
But where's my Animal Crossing at???
