After nearly 10 years and roughly 80 million units sold, Sony is
discontinuing the PlayStation Portable, with shipments ending this month
in Japan and later this year in Europe.
Revealed in July 2003, the PlayStation Portable launched in Japan in late 2004 and in North America and Europe in early 2005. With five different iterations of the hardware, including the short-lived PSP GO, the PlayStation Portable was the first dedicated handheld gaming device from Sony and competed against the Nintendo DS last decade.
