In a new hands-on post on the PlayStation Blog, Justin Massongill, a social media specialist for Sony, detailed the cutback multiplayer offerings for Vita owners. "As checked in with [Sony Computer Entertainment America] third-party production team, who confirmed that while they strived to include four-player co-op in the game, they made a decision late in their development cycle to focus on providing the best two-player-only co-op experience possible," Massongill wrote. "As a result, the maximum co-operative player count for Borderlands 2 on PS Vita is capped at two."
Four-player multiplayer was originally planned for Borderlands 2 on Vita, as Gearbox Software detailed last year, saying that it would "truly bring the four-player cooperative experience to the palms of your hands."
Borderlands 2 comes out on Vita on May 13, though a new PlayStation Vita
bundle includes the game and is slated for release May 6.
