In a blog post, the Twitch team explained that the new video system focuses on improving video quality rather than decreasing latency. Videos will now "buffer more" in cases of network congestion, and latency — the time between when the broadcaster does something and the viewer sees it — has been increased by "multiple seconds."
The team also said that they are "working to drive down latency as much as possible in the coming months," noting that they "highly value the interactions that chat brings to our social broadcasting communities." In the meantime, Twitch users can submit feedback about the new system.
