The Canadian arm of Toys R Us may have inadvertently outed the base price of the upcoming Nintendo Switch, briefly listing the hybrid console at $329.99 CAD - roughly £200 UK / $250 USD / $330 AUD.
The listing has since been removed. As spotted by WCCFTech,
the potential price is competitive, placing it around the same level as
the most basic Xbox One and PS4 units, not to mention on par with the
hugely successful Wii's $249.99 USD initial price point.
The listing lines up with a report from Let's Play Video Games,
which says two separate sources have indicated that the UK's GAME
retail chain will sell a basic model for £199.99. LPVG also reports that
a premium model will be sold with more internal storage and a pack-in
game for £249.99.
If this is the case, and it is Nintendo's recommended price, it will mark the Switch as significantly cheaper to manufacture than the Wii U. Nintendo has previously said it will not sell the new console at a loss - the Wii U was sold at a loss, and at a $299.99 initial price point.
Nintendo will not comment on rumours about the console, and will not be announcing anything more about it until a Nintendo Direct in January.
